In our modern world, every aspect of life relies heavily on telecommunications and connectivity. From entertainment to transport and business, connectivity is the engine of society.  Despite local ICT adoption rates being slightly behind the curve when compared to global trends, the South African information and communications technology (ICT) industry has seen exponential growth leading it to eclipse agriculture as a contributor to economic production, delivering upwards of 2.7% to local GDP.

This month, we're celebrating Transport Month and commending our fantastic transport team for the exceptional work that they do. In September 2017, the Barloworld Logistics Manline Mega team took on their biggest challenge yet, transporting a 33-metre luxury house boat from Zimbabwe to Namibia. A fascinating journey and huge accomplishment that we're proud to announce has been nominated in the 2018 Logistics Achiever Awards for this ground breaking initiative. The awards ceremony is being held tonight, 11 October 2018.

The African Dream, a 3-decked, 33-metre long luxury houseboat, equipped with 8 twin cabins, accommodating 16 guests, was built in the year 2017 with the aim of sailing on the Chobe River just in time for the festive season. Weighing in at approximately 220 metric tonnes, this heavy load required specific expertise in abnormal cargo to be able to transport it from where it was built in Zimbabwe to its final destination in Namibia. These expertise were found in the Barloworld Logistics Manline Mega Team, who were tasked with the enormous feat of taking the houseboat on this long journey.
